Phil Mickelson Might Play Second Fiddle to Pro-Am Partner Steph Curry

Phil Mickelson is probably a top-3 most famous active Tour player. Yet, when he tees it up in the Safeway Open pro-am, Lefty might be the second-most famous in his group as Golden State Warrior superstar Steph Curry will team up with the Mick. The SF Chronicle’s Ron Kroichick has the details.

Curry and Mickelson traded friendly tweets Thursday, shortly before tournament officials announced their pro-am pairing. Curry posted a photo of himself doing calf raises, asking Mickelson, “Am I doing this right?” Mickelson often tweets about his workouts on social media.

Phil’s admired calves…

What I found interesting is that former Cowboy QB and current CBS lead NFL analyst Tony Romo accepted another sponsor exemption (where if he makes the cut (granted, highly unlikely), would not broadcast on Sunday. Curry was also offered an exemption but declined. Romo and Justin Thomas will be in the group behind Mickelson and Curry.

So, who attracts the bigger gallery–Mick and Steph or Justin and Tony (leaning towards the former).

Troy Aikman cited on The Ticket this morning that if given the same opportunity (they used a hypothetical bass fishing tournament), he’d be working on Fox that weekend as he intimated you should respect your main job. Hmmm.
